Pall Rings
The proven workhorse ring — windows in the wall with the material bent inward as tongues open the structure for higher void, lower pressure drop, and better liquid redistribution than a Raschig ring.
The Pall Ring is the geometry that defined modern random packing. By punching rows of windows into the wall of a cylindrical ring and bending the displaced material inward as tongues, it opens up the closed Raschig ring — raising the void fraction, lowering pressure drop, and using the internal tongues to repeatedly redistribute liquid through the bed.
